April Sew-In Date Announced

It's that time again. In April we are meeting on the 13th from 10-2. We had such a great time last month if you have been considering joining us, now is the time to do it! Come out and spend the day making quilts for our nation's heroes and make some new friends! We are still a small group, but we are a lot of fun!

Details:

  • We are meeting at the West Springfield Government Center's Community Room again. The address is  6140 Rolling Road Springfield, VA.
  • I will bring with me an ironing board, an iron, and cutting supplies. I am more than willing to share, but if someone would like to bring any of their own supplies that would be wonderful!
  • Please bring your sewing machine and your current Quilt of Valor project. If you don't have one in the works please still plan to join us! There is always something to do! If you don't want to commit to an entire quilt right now, come and make quilt blocks. There is an exciting block drive happening this year to celebrate Quilts of Valor's 10th anniversary.
  • I ask that if you want to sew with us please RSVP to me by either leaving a comment on this blog post or by emailing me at melanie.burnett@qovf.org.

Hope to see you in April. Until then, keep on quilting!

Quilts of Valor 10th Anniversary Block Drive

So wanna help celebrate ten years of Quilts of Valor? This darling little block is super easy to make and will make good use of your red, white and blue scraps!

If you are interested in making a block (or two), please follow this link. You can download the PDF directly from the Quilts of Valor website. Please feel free to pass this on to your family, friends, guild members or anybody you think might want to contribute! I can't imagine how special the quilts made from these blocks will be!

March Sew-in Recap

Saturday's sewing day was a big success! We had some new members join us this month which is always so thrilling! I'm so pleased to say that not only are they very talented, but so incredibly nice too!

Most of us (including me) worked on the celebration blocks for Quilt of Valor's 10th Anniversary (blog post soon). Here are some shots of our progress:
Wendy with her anniversary block.

Becky was the only one of us who had brought a project of her own to work on and what a project it is!

She has already finished one with a white background and is starting now on this one in blue. I can't decide which I like better!

Isn't she so talented?

I think I can safely say that a good time was had by all! Spending time quilting with good people for a good cause is always time well spent! If you live in the Northern Virginia area and are interested, please join us! We are still a small group, but we're growing!

Stay tuned for our next date in April! I'll announce it soon!

February Sew-in Wrap Up

This past Saturday we had a great time sewing away! This month it was just Sue and me, but we made the most of it!

Sue cut out blocks for the Quilts of Valor 10th Anniversary block drive (post about that soon) and I was this close to finishing my top. I'm hoping to have the borders finished and attached by the end of the week!

Please stay tuned to the blog! I'll be announcing the date of the next sew-in soon! Won't you please join us and make a quilt for our nation's heroes? Not only will you have a great time, but you'll feel so good about paying homage to our military!

Until next time, keep on quilting!

Quilt of Valor Show and Tell

Wendy, one of the wonderful volunteer quilters from Virginia, finished a Quilt of Valor recently and was kind enough to share it with us!

Isn't this beautiful? She just found out her quilt is going to Afghanistan where the requester said that the hospital is using wool blankets. Won't this bright and cheery beauty bring a smile to someone's face?

Thanks for sharing with us Wendy! I hope seeing this beautiful quilt makes you feel like heading to your sewing machine and making a quilt for our nation's service members. I know I do!
